Welcome to the satellite workshop website on Modeling and Simulation of Particle Formation in Turbulent Flows

The workshop is annexed to the 11th European Combustion Meeting (ECM2023) and will take place on the 25th of April, 2023, at the Law faculty - University of Rouen (Normandy, site 'Pasteur' 3 Av. Pasteur, 76000 Rouen - France).

The workshop aims to bring together scientists to provide and analyze detailed numerical simulations of inorganic functional particle formation in turbulent flows. Such flows are hard to access experimentally, making it almost impossible to develop, validate or falsify closure models for RANS and Large-Eddy simulations of such systems. Suitably complete datasets for model development can be obtained from direct numerical simulations (DNS) on a scale that covers the effects of turbulence and the finest scales of the scalar fields of the (nano) particle phase. Therefore, the workshop aims to coordinate such simulations, organize access to the data, process and analyze the data, discuss the physics involved, and develop closure models that can, prospectively, be used to simulate technical systems.

The proposed agenda covers the following topics:

• Numerical modeling of particle synthesis in turbulent flames.

• Nanoparticle synthesis in spray burners.

• Numerical simulations of iron-particle combustion.

PARTICIPATION AND CONTRIBUTIONS

Registration at the ECM will allow you to participate in this satellite workshop. If you would like to attend this workshop, please confirm your interest by sending an email to mspftf@centralesupelec.fr.

Works on soot particle formation will not be considered in this session and will not be part of the workshop program. We encourage participants to discuss unpublished results or touch on often tricky/challenging topics to develop closure models for simulating technical systems, clarify the turbulence-particle-dynamics interaction, and guide the necessary modeling efforts. A central motivation of this workshop is to assess and grow our collective understanding of modeling and simulation of particle formation in turbulent flows and to facilitate constructive discussions and conversations on these topics.

Sadly, a cyberattack affected the previous workshop email address for submitting abstracts (mspftf@uni-due.de). Therefore, if you submitted an abstract to this workshop before the 16th of December, 2022, please send it again to the new email address: mspftf@centralesupelec.frPlease apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

If you have any questions and/or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us via mspftf@centralesupelec.fr.

We are very much looking forward to an excellent workshop in Rouen!

Sincerely,

The Organizing Committee

The workshop would not be possible without the generous support from the German Research Foundation (DFG Project No. 262219004 - FOR2284 with Grant No. KE 1751/7-2), and the support of the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement No. 757912).
